Re: Weekly LCV Victory Fund Update

Less than three weeks out from Election Day, LCVVF made clear this week that we’re not leaving anything on the table when it comes to maintaining pro-environment control of the House.

On Monday we announced the expansion of our joint Climate Voters Mobilization digital ads and direct mail campaign with Climate Power Action into six new districts: CA-27, NC-13, NM-02, NY-22, OH-01, and OH-13. On Tuesday, we added three dangerous House candidates to the 2022 House and Senate Dirty Dozen list of the worst anti-environmental and anti-democracy candidates: George Logan (running in CT-05), Karoline Leavitt (running in NH-01), and Amanda Adkins (running in KS-03). And throughout the week we launched $1.7 million in new TV, digital, and digital radio ads in six key House districts: MI-03, MN-02, OR-06, NM-02, NH-01, and CT-05.

Also this week, FiveThirtyEight highlighted our Climate Voters Mobilization program with Climate Power Action in a piece quoting notable political science reporters validating our theory of the case, saying “Targeting the people who care the most about climate change, and are the least likely to just go out and vote on their own, with ads that tell them politicians are actually acting on their desires can produce the kind of small differences that tip the scales in some elections.” 20 more days to tip those scales!

As mentioned above, this week we also announced the final four additions to LCV Victory Fund’s list of the worst of the worst candidates for the environment and democracy – the federal Dirty Dozen:

Final Four Federal Dirty Dozen Additions:

And as our $22 million field organizing effort continues, we’d love to have reporters join us and our partners for a canvass in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania or Wisconsin in the coming weeks – please be in touch with National Communications Director Emily (esamsel@lcv.org) to arrange a visit.

As a reminder, this cycle, LCV Victory Fund is part of the joint $100 million Climate Votes Project with Climate Power Action, Climate Reality Action Fund, EDF Action Votes (EDF AV), NRDC Action Votes (NRDC AV), and NextGen PAC to elect climate champions.

Field Updates – LCVVF Field Program

This week, we officially pivoted three more states to Get Out the Vote scripts: New Hampshire, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, where organizers are helping supporters make plans to vote by mail, vote early in-person, or vote at their polling place on Election Day. We are also launching layered GOTV tactics this week – the field universe in Arizona, Nevada, and Wisconsin will start to see Get Out The Vote digital ads from LCVVF in addition to hearing from us at the doors. Finally, in Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, we are starting to make ballot chase calls this week, following up with supporters who have received mail ballots to ensure they have everything they need to return their ballot.

Results to date:

  • 950,679 door knocks
  • 134,593 successful contacts with our targeted voters
  • 2,852 Vote by Mail sign ups
  • 8,712 commit to vote cards collected
  • 11,662: vote tripling sign ups

Anecdotes from the doors:

  • Arizona: In Tempe, we spoke with Diana, a registered Republican who told us that she is going to vote for Sen. Kelly in order to preserve our democracy. Diana told us the current Republican party was too extreme for them and they wanted to ensure that extremism would not invade our government. Diana is planning to vote early by mail.
  • Nevada: In Las Vegas, we spoke with Tyrika, a 22-year-old voter, about the upcoming midterm election. Tyrika expressed concerns about tax increases and the economy. We spoke about the current state of the economy and how Governor Sisolak, Senator Cortez Masto, and Michelle Gorelow are looking to create more clean energy jobs and reduce inflation. Tyrika committed to vote for all three candidates in November.
  • Wisconsin: In Brookfield, we spoke with a middle aged male voter about the upcoming midterm election. He will be voting for Governor Tony Evers and Mandela Barnes because they want to protect democracy in America. He used to be an independent voter who did not align completely with either party. However, recently he found himself voting for only Democratic candidates because he saw the Republican party inching away from the values of democracy. He believes Gov. Evers and Barnes are great candidates who will ensure democracy continues in the right direction. He signed a commit to vote card.
