Re: Weekly LCV Victory Fund Update

While little is certain with less than one month to go until Election Day, a few things remain clear: voters still rank the climate crisis as a top priority, Democrats are the only party that passed a transformational Climate Law, and voters trust Democrats far more than Republicans on climate. That’s why LCV Victory Fund is throwing everything we’ve got into engaging and turning out climate voters in support of key pro-environment candidates in the last few weeks.

Building on his record of taking historic climate and environmental action, this week President Biden designated Camp Hale-Continental Divide as the first national monument of his presidency, thanks in large part to Senator Michael Bennet. LCV Victory Fund quickly released a digital ad, “Wins, Loses,” praising Bennet’s tireless, bipartisan work to protect Colorado’s public lands, and contrasting Bennet’s pro-environment record with Joe O’Dea’s opposition to the CORE Act and support for dirty and dangerous oil and gas drilling on public lands.

This week, as debates began in some races, we added more candidates to the state and federal Dirty Dozen lists of the worst anti-environmental and anti-democracy candidates this cycle:

State Dirty Dozen Additions:

Federal Dirty Dozen Additions:

And LCV Victory Fund continues to communicate directly with climate voters at the doors, and via digital ads, TV ads, and direct mail about where candidates stand on the Inflation Reduction Act and other key environmental and economic policy.

We’d love to have reporters join us and our partners for a canvass in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania or Wisconsin in the coming weeks – please be in touch with National Communications Director Emily (esamsel@lcv.org) to arrange a visit.

As a reminder, this cycle, LCV Victory Fund is part of the joint $100 million Climate Votes Project with Climate Power Action, Climate Reality Action Fund, EDF Action Votes (EDF AV), NRDC Action Votes (NRDC AV), and NextGen PAC to elect climate champions.

Field Updates – LCVVF Field Program

This week, we officially pivoted our field organizing effort with state affiliates and partners towards Get Out The Vote (GOTV) in AZ, WI, and MI, where organizers are helping supporters make plans to vote by mail, vote early in-person, or vote at their polling place on Election Day. Next Monday, we will start GOTV in the remaining states.

With additional new funding bringing the budget for our organizing program with state affiliates and partners to $22M (from $12.8M), we were able to expand our field operation significantly this week in Nevada, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. The Georgia organizing effort is run by Family Friendly Action PAC, with major support from the New American Jobs Fund, a joint effort of LCV Victory Fund and the United Steelworkers (USW Works). This expansion involves preparing to open new offices in WI, NV, and GA and hiring additional canvassers across all four states.

Results to date:

  • 731,341 door knocks
  • 103,851 successful contacts with our targeted voters
  • 2,383 Vote by Mail sign ups
  • 6,996 commit to vote cards collected
  • 9,590 vote tripling sign ups

Anecdotes from the doors:

  • Arizona: In Tempe, we spoke with Ari about the upcoming midterms. Ari said she was supporting Kelly due to his views on climate change and his pledge to invest more in clean energy. While we were talking, Ari updated her address to vote by mail and made a plan to drop off her ballot.
  • Georgia [Partnered with Family Friendly Action PAC]: In Marietta, organizers spoke with Sheila who said her top concern is the rising cost of living. Sheila stated that her rent is very high right now and she is considering picking up a weekend job so she can have extra money in her pocket. Sheila stated she will vote for both Raphael Warnock and Stacey Abrams in the upcoming election because she knows they will create policies to help African-American communities.
  • Nevada: In Las Vegas, we spoke with an eager 20-year-old who was very enthusiastic about voting for the first time in the upcoming election. She was concerned with voting rights and wanted to make sure everyone had the right to vote. She was supportive of our candidates and said that “we can count on her” to vote for Sisolak and Cortez Masto in the upcoming election.
