The reports are calling the 2026 Midterms the “Energy Midterms,” as we head into the final stretch of the election. LCV Victory Fund is THE major outside group focused on reaching voters with an energy affordability message. This week we are also taking a look at this year’s state Dirty Dozen list, stories from the field, and sharing ads that dropped on the airwaves this week.

This Year’s Dirty Dozen in the States

LCV Victory Fund’s state affiliates announced the 2026 Dirty Dozen in the States. Modeled after LCV Victory Fund’s federal Dirty Dozen, the Dirty Dozen in the States highlights 12 of the worst candidates in the nation at the state and local level. Members of the Dirty Dozen in the States have consistently voted to raise energy costs, kill clean energy jobs, and take funding from corporate polluters. These candidates are chosen regardless of party affiliation and are running in races prioritized by LCV state affiliates in the Conservation Voter Movement. Check out the full list here.

Gaining Ground

Today, LCV Victory Fund launched an additional $1.6 million investment in field organizing programs focused on key House races in Colorado, Florida, and Virginia. Canvassers will knock on over 160,000 doors in support of Manny Rutinel (CO-08), Jared Moskowitz (FL-25), Shannon Taylor (VA-01), and Elaine Luria (VA-02).

Earlier this week, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy PAC (CFFE PAC) and LCV Victory Fund announced a $750,000 expansion of its field organizing campaigns to include Texas’ Senate race in support of James Talarico. This is CFFE PAC and LCV Victory Fund’s first time canvassing for a federal race in Texas and will include knocking on over 80,000 doors. The Texas program is a partnership between CFFE PAC and the New American Jobs Fund, which is a joint project of LCV Victory Fund and United Steelworkers.

By the numbers:

Across Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin:

  • 1,234,405 doors knocked
  • 135,375 door contacts

Notes from the Field:

  • Colorado: In Denver, we spoke with Julie, who was initially unfamiliar with Manny Rutinel and was curious to hear more about him. She brought up her worries about the cost of utilities and in our conversation with her we explained that this is an issue Rutinel takes very seriously and outlined his commitment for affordable, clean energy. By the end of the conversation she told us she thought more favorably about Rutinel and is considering voting for him.
  • Florida: While canvassing in Broward County, we met Mable whose primary concerns were the cost of living and gas prices. Overall, she expressed strong support for Jared Moskowitz and said she plans to vote for him.
  • Michigan: In Detroit, we spoke with Taylor who said she wants representatives to focus on helping families manage higher everyday expenses, which is why she plans to vote for Jocelyn Benson and Abdul El-Sayed on Election Day.

New on the Air

This week, LCV Victory Fund launched $4 million in more digital House ads focused on data centers, energy costs, clean water and home insurance. The ads are running in CA-22, CO-08, FL-14, IA-01, MI-04, MI-07, MT-01, and PA-07.
