Senator Catherine Cortez Masto has been a strong clean champion in Congress – fighting for just and equitable solutions to the climate crisis that create new jobs for Nevada’s booming solar industry. At the same time, she’s fighting for environmental justice for those communities hardest hit from pollution. And with oil and gas companies raking in record profits while Nevada families face pain at the pump, Cortez Masto is working to hold corporate polluters accountable and stop Big Oil’s price gouging. The senator also understands the need to protect sacred and public places – she’s introduced legislation to end speculative oil and gas leasing on public lands. Cortez Masto has earned an impressive lifetime score of 97% in LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

Adam Laxalt
Climate change denier and Dirty Dozen member Adam Laxalt has significant financial ties to Big Oil. He and his wife have Big Oil investments worth up to $80,000, including stock in ExxonMobil worth up to $15,000. Over the course of his current Senate campaign and previous state office campaigns, Laxalt has received more than $183,000 in campaign cash from the oil and gas industry. And during his failed 2018 gubernatorial run, Laxalt benefited from more than $2.5 million in outside spending from groups bankrolled by Big Oil. Not coincidentally, Laxalt opposes efforts to grow Nevada’s clean energy economy while backing a Big Oil wish list of policies, including drilling on federal lands and building the dangerous Keystone XL pipeline. Astonishingly, Laxalt even refuses to support holding oil and gas companies accountable for price-gouging, claiming it’s not “Big Oil’s fault” that gas prices have increased despite their record profits. And when he was Nevada Attorney General, Laxalt tried to block a fraud investigation into ExxonMobil’s climate change cover-ups.
