Re: Weekly LCV Victory Fund Update

With just 11 days to go, the Washington Post reported this week that LCV and its affiliated entities, including state leagues and the GiveGreen fundraising platform, will invest $100 million in the midterm elections.

We’re going so big this year – investing $20 million more than in the pivotal 2018 midterms – because while passing the Inflation Reduction Act was monumental, we cannot rest on our laurels in the fight to meet our climate goals and build a more just, equitable, and affordable clean energy future. We’re up against the greedy oil and gas lobby that is raking in record breaking profits from price gouging consumers at the gas pump while rewarding shareholders, and sees their donations supporting Congressional Republicans as “smart business investments.” Big Oil’s puppets in GOP leadership clearly won’t think twice about holding our government hostage to gut the Climate Law – not to mention cutting Medicare and Social Security. The stakes are too damn high.

Speaking of Republicans who want to slash climate investments, New Hampshire Senate candidate Don Bolduc said at Thursday’s New Hampshire Senate Debate that the federal government being involved in environmental protection is, “a complete waste of money and complete waste of time.” And Colorado Senate candidate Joe O’Dea made clear throughout Tuesday’s Colorado Senate Debate that he thinks more fossil fuels are the answer to fixing … just about everything.

As a reminder, this cycle, LCV Victory Fund is part of the joint Climate Votes Project with Climate Power Action, Climate Reality Action Fund, EDF Action Votes (EDF AV), NRDC Action Votes (NRDC AV), and NextGen PAC to elect climate champions.

Field Updates – LCVVF Field Program

This week, LCV Victory Fund, state affiliates, and partners surpassed 1 million door knocks (!) across the 7 field program states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, New Hampshire, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin. Canvassers are in full Get Out The Vote mode across the country, including making plans to vote by mail, early vote, or vote on election day – depending on each states’ options. Voters have been receptive to our conversations, continuing to engage in discussions around our candidates’ issues. The economy, abortion access, climate action, and healthcare costs continue to be the top priorities for our voters, and hearing more about where our candidates stand helps folks inform their GOTV plans.

Beyond canvassing our field universe, we’ve been launching layered GOTV tactics including digital ads in AZ, NV, and WI, as well as ballot chase phone calls in AZ, MI, NV, PA, and WI, and we have GOTV mail pieces dropping in PA and WI this week.

Results to date:

  • 1,268,958 door knocks
  • 176,995 successful contacts with our targeted voters
  • 3,197 Vote by Mail sign ups
  • 10,222 commit to vote cards collected
  • 14,530 vote tripling sign ups

Anecdotes from the doors:

  • Arizona: In Tempe, we spoke with Benjamin about the upcoming midterm election. Benjamin told us that he would be voting for Sen. Kelly this November due to his help in passing the Inflation Reduction Act. Benjamin told us that he specifically liked Sen. Kelly’s support for climate action as climate change is very serious. Benjamin said that he will be voting by mail.
  • Georgia [Partnered with Family Friendly Action PAC]: Organizers spoke with Willie who said the top priority for our Senators should be the rising cost of living. Willie said recently his grandkids had to move in with him because the cost of living is too high for them to afford. Willie said he is voting for both Stacey Abrams and Raphael Warnock in the upcoming election.
  • Michigan: In Grand Rapids, organizers spoke with Joseph about the upcoming midterm election. Joseph pledged his support for Governor Whitmer and Representative Carol Glanville. He was very enthusiastic about the clean water action that our candidates support, and noted that he understands the dangers of contamination as he got cancer from chemicals at the factory where he was employed. Joseph plans on voting on election day.
  • Nevada: In Las Vegas, we spoke with Fariba, who was mainly concerned with climate change. Fariba was happy to hear about Governor Sisolak, Senator Cortez Masto, and Max Carter’s policies on clean energy and climate action. Fariba is planning to vote early by mail. We also urged Fariba to invite friends and family to make their voice heard by voting in this election and thanked her for support.
