Washington, D.C.– Today, LCV Victory Fund launched a $2 million digital ad campaign in six House districts focused on Republican incumbents’ votes to give data centers tens of billions in tax breaks. The program names incumbent Republican candidates in AZ-06, IA-03, MI-07, MN-01, VA-01 and WI-03. The ads will run on CTV and YouTube until November 3rd.

“Voters have watched their energy bills rise by an average of 18% under Trump’s disastrous energy policy,” said Sara Schreiber, Senior Vice President of LCV Victory Fund. “Now polling shows that voters of all stripes are as fed up with Big Tech as they are with Big Oil, so Republicans are trying to run away from their votes to give those companies tax breaks instead of reining them in. We want to make sure every voter in the district knows the truth as they head to the polls in November.”

In an increasingly crowded digital airwaves, LCV Victory Fund is using the breakthrough creative necessary to grab attention. Invoking a tongue-in-cheek ‘90’s Infomercial style, the ads call out Congressmen Brad Finstad (MN-01), Tom Barrett (MI-07), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), Zach Nunn (IA-03) and Rob Wittman (VA-01) for their vote for the “Big Ugly Bill,” also known as the Republican Tax Law, to give data center developers $80 billion in tax breaks. The Republican Tax Law also cut clean energy programs, in order to give handouts to Big Oil and Big Polluters. 

Data center development is on the rise across the country, with districts like IA-03 having 33 currently operational and another 27 planned. Voters express a number of concerns about the rapid construction of so many data centers around the country. In addition to the lack of transparency, serious impacts on energy costs, noise, and water pollution, one of the less-discussed impacts is the potential dramatic increase in climate pollution depending on how data centers are powered. Right now, the rush to build data centers without environmental safeguards is keeping dirty energy (oil, coal and gas) in business, which fuels more climate change and air pollution. According to recent reports, dirty data center projects are posed to increase climate pollution from power plants by between 20% and 33%.

“Communities are already feeling the pain—rising utility bills, more pollution, and daily quality-of-life hits—as fossil-fueled data centers multiply across the country,” said Schreiber. “But the long-term danger is only just beginning. If every project is powered by gas or coal, the carbon pollution in the U.S. could soar by up to a third, slamming the brakes on climate progress and leading to more extreme weather. And let’s be honest, voters can’t expect Republican candidates bankrolled by Big Oil to put families and the future ahead of fossil fuel profits. If they could, they wouldn’t have handed data center companies $80 billion in tax breaks already.”

LCV Victory Fund and affiliated entities previously announced that they plan to invest at least $50 million in the 2026 midterm election cycle overall. Earlier this summer, LCV Victory Fund announced their strategy to target the “Energy Bill Voter.” Our research shows that 42% of swing voters are “very concerned” about rising electricity costs.
