LCV Victory Fund launches new ad campaign calling out Republican Bill Huizenga (MI-04) for voting to cut clean energy and raising Michiganders’ energy bills
Washington, D.C.– Today, LCV Victory Fund and Somos PAC announced a new ad program that includes Michigan’s Fourth District highlighting Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga’s votes to cut clean energy that raised rates across Michigan. The ads will be targeted to reach “Energy Bill Voters,” a key voting bloc hit particularly hard by energy price increases that LCV Victory Fund seeks to mobilize heading toward this November’s critical midterm election. This is the earliest LCV Victory Fund has ever invested in House races, highlighting the egregious votes Huizenga has taken and the impact it has had on voters in his district. The ads will launch on TV, digital, and streaming platforms.

Voters in southwest Michigan have felt the impact of these costs and are making their voices heard:
“Energy costs are crushing us, Michigan families are hurting. Congressman Huizenga has done nothing but vote to raise rates and cut clean affordable energy. We need leaders who will stand up for us, not a yes man for this administration’s agenda. Michigan deserves clean affordable energy and leaders who have the backbone to fight for our community.”

Since President Trump took office, energy costs have risen 18% nationwide and Michigan energy bills are 16% higher than the national average. Recent polling shows that 35% of all voters, and 51% of undecided voters placed the cost of utilities, like electricity and heating “as their most important issue in deciding who to vote for in Congressional elections.”
At the same time, the number of voters blaming high energy costs on Trump and Congressional Republicans’ cancellation of clean energy projects has already risen 5% in the first half of 2026 alone.
Despite the popularity of clean energy resources and projects, the Trump Administration and Republicans like Rep. Huizenga have continued to roll back clean energy projects that help lower costs and protect the health and safety of our communities. The pain of these choices is being felt across all the districts LCVVF is targeting. In Michigan, the Trump Administration and Congressman Huizenga are determined to keep open the Campbell Coal Plant costing Michiganders $180 million as of the end of March.
You see what I’m holding here? This is my utility bill.
$350, $350!
Last year, it was 160.
That’s on top of groceries and everything else.
I hope you are hearing me, Congressman Bill Huizenga.
Your votes to cut our clean energy supply made our utility rates go up.
Why?
So you can give billionaires another tax cut. I’ve got 4 kids.
Congressman Huizenga, your votes are crushing us.
