Washington, D.C.– Today, LCV Victory Fund launched a new $1.5 million digital ad program targeting former Congressman Mike Rogers. Former Congressman Mike Rogers supported the Republican Tax Law, also known as the “Big Ugly Bill,” which is projected to result in Michigan households paying any additional $160 per year on their energy bills by 2030. Rogers has also received campaign funding from major utility companies like Pinnacle West and Essential Utilities who are benefiting from the rolling back of clean energy projects as a result of the Republican Tax Law and Trump administration actions that Rogers supports.
“Congressman Rogers has demonstrated time and time again that he is putting his own political gain and polluters before the Michiganders, who are footing the bill,” said Sara Schreiber, SVP of Campaigns at LCV Victory Fund. “Michiganders deserve someone who will stand up to the Trump administration and Big Polluters and actually lower costs. We are meeting voters where they are and making sure they know who is fighting for them and who is cozying up to Big Polluters.”
This ad comes as the Trump administration has continued to prioritize rolling back clean energy programs that help to keep costs low and has ordered for J.H. Campbell Coal plant to remain open costing Michiganders $259 million as of the end of June. This coal plant is not only raising energy costs for ratepayers in Michigan, but also poses a serious risk to the health and safety of Michigan families and communities.
LCV Victory Fund and affiliated entities’ previously announced that they plan to invest at least $50 million in the 2026 midterm election cycle overall. Earlier this summer, LCV Victory Fund announced their strategy to target the “Energy Bill Voter.” Our research shows that 42% of swing voters are “very concerned” about rising electricity costs.
