Rising Home Insurance Costs Focus of New $2.3 Million Ad Program from LCV Victory Fund

Kelci Hobson, khobson@lcv.org

Washington, D.C.— Today, LCV Victory Fund launched a $2.3 million ad program in FL-14 and FL-22 focused on rising home insurance costs driven by extreme weather in Florida. The program includes digital ads and creator content that will run on YouTube, CTV, Linear TV and other digital platforms through November 3. These ads are airing at a critical time when rising home insurance premiums are increasingly becoming an affordability issue for voters – not only in Florida but across the country. Voters who are making up their minds in the last three weeks of the election are likely to be motivated by higher costs for everything, including home insurance.

“The cost of extreme weather is all too real for Floridians, and skyrocketing home insurance rates means that they can’t afford candidates who won’t provide solutions,” said Sara Schreiber, SVP of Campaigns at LCV Victory Fund. “That’s why they deserve leaders like Kathy Castor and Pia Dandiya who will work to lower home insurance costs, provide real support after an extreme weather event, and reduce carbon pollution. We expect this to only become a more potent political issue in more places around the country unless more action is taken.”

Florida has a history of extreme weather wreaking havoc on its families, communities, and homes. This also fuels the record high home insurance premiums Floridians experience. Recent reporting shows that the extreme weather made worse by climate change is causing higher insurance premiums for Florida, with the premiums increasing by 75% between 2021 and 2025 and could skyrocket as much as 75% more by 2035.

This spot focuses on how Congresswoman Kathy Castor is working across party lines to bring down costs and lower flood insurance costs. The ad highlights how home insurance premiums for Floridians have increased by 75% and how residents are paying for insurance companies’ reinsurance costs.

This ad highlights Casey Askar’s record of supporting policies that would make extreme weather worse and drive insurance costs up. Casey Askar has openly supported the expansion of the oil, gas, and coal industries, which have direct ties to worsening the climate crisis and extreme weather. This ad will also run in Spanish language through November 3.

Earlier this summer, LCV Victory Fund announced plans to invest at least $50 million in the 2026 midterm election cycle. LCV Victory Fund’s priorities this cycle include flipping the House, protecting and expanding pro-clean energy seats in the U.S. Senate, and supporting the work of state affiliates to elect pro-clean energy and climate candidates up and down the ballot. The investment will include a strategic mix of paid media, field, mail and work with content creators.
