LCV Victory Fund | Our Impact

Who We Are

LCV Victory Fund runs independent campaigns to influence competitive federal races where our involvement and issues can be decisive for pro-environment candidates who reflect the racial and gender diversity of our country. We have deep experience and expertise in delivering victory for candidates who will translate these wins into environmental policies that benefit people across the country, and these policies increasingly focus on communities of color and low-wealth communities who are impacted by environmental racism and injustice.

Our Impact

Every election cycle, LCV Victory Fund and affiliated entities invest millions of dollars in electing federal leaders who take their constituents’ environmental concerns seriously. With the largest electoral operations in the environmental community, we are trusted to elect committed leaders who truly represent their communities’ desire for large-scale action on climate change.

In 2018, we made the largest investment of any single-issue group. Our work helped elect more candidates of color, women, and LGBTQ+ people than ever before, flip the U.S. House to a pro-environment majority, and hold the green Senate firewall.

Making Historic Progress in the U.S. House

We succeeded in electing almost 60 new members to the U.S. House in 2018, flipping the chamber from the most anti-environmental in history to one that prioritizes environmental protections and justice.

Under the leadership of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the new pro-environment House majority has passed legislation to combat the climate crisis, protect our air, water, lands and wildlife, and defend our democracy. Additionally, the new House members who defeated members of the 2018 Dirty Dozen earned an average environmental score of 95 percent on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard in 2019, while the average lifetime score of the members they defeated was an abysmal 6 percent.

DIRTY DOZEN DEFEATED

Defending the Green Firewall in the U.S. Senate

In the 2018 elections, when many environmental champions faced close races in the Senate, LCV Victory Fund set out to protect the green firewall — we couldn’t afford to lose any of our allies who have helped block legislative action that required 60 votes in the Senate. In the end, we kept the green Senate firewall intact.

From our innovative canvassing that engaged and listened to voters at their doors, to our television and digital advertising, to our work with a broad array of progressive allies, we made an impact, helping elect new Senators Jacky Rosen and Kyrsten Sinema and re-elect Senators Sherrod Brown and Jon Tester, all of whom are prioritizing public health and safety over corporate greed.
