Re: Weekly LCV Victory Fund Update

With seven weeks to go till Election Day, primary season has officially concluded and the Republican Party has added a flip-flopping Big Lie enthusiast to their line up of anti-democracy, anti-environment U.S. Senate candidates on the ballot this fall. LCV Victory Fund’s 2022 programming continues to heat up with new ads out this week, and the final weeks of the first phase of our field campaign.

As a reminder, this cycle, LCV Victory Fund is part of the joint $100 million Climate Votes Project with Climate Power Action, Climate Reality Action Fund, EDF Action Votes (EDF AV), NRDC Action Votes (NRDC AV), and NextGen PAC to elect climate champions.

Field Updates – LCVVF Field Program

The first phase of our $12.8 million field organizing effort with state affiliates and partners continues in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The Georgia organizing effort is run by Family Friendly Action PAC, with major support from the New American Jobs Fund, a joint effort of LCV Victory Fund and the United Steelworkers (USW Works).

This phase, running through the end of September, is all about early engagement with voters about the issues they care the most about, persuading voters to support pro-climate candidates and sign commit-to-vote cards, and signing supporters up to vote by mail. Additionally, our canvass uses a relational organizing component — a tactic called “Vote Tripling”– where we ask voters to commit to reminding three friends or family members to vote. This proven tactic maximizes the impact of a mobilization program as friends and family are often the most trusted messengers for voters.

Results to date:

  • 356,042 door knocks
  • 51,013 successful contacts with our targeted voters
  • 1,284 Vote by Mail sign ups
  • 3,698 commit to vote cards collected
  • 5,883 vote tripling sign ups

Anecdotes from the doors:

  • Arizona: In Phoenix, LCV Victory Fund spoke with Yolanda about the upcoming midterm election. Yolanda was very happy about the recent passage of the Inflation Reduction Act as that would finally allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices. It was because of this that Yolanda has decided to vote for Sen. Kelly in November.
  • Georgia: In Cobb County, Family Friendly Action PAC organizers spoke with Alayna, a 39 year old woman who stated the top priority for Georgia’s elected officials should be the rising cost of living. Alayna is a single mother, and says it has been increasingly difficult to pay her bills. Alayna said she is a Democrat and an avid supporter of Stacey Abrams and that she will be voting for Raphael Warnock and Stacey Abrams in November.
  • Michigan: In Wyoming, Conservation Voters of Michigan PAC spoke with Jose about the upcoming midterm election. Jose was happy to hear that Governor Gretchen Whitmer is fighting for clean water in the state of Michigan. He had not previously heard about all of the clean water action taken by Gov. Whitmer and State Senator Winnie Brinks, and was happy to pledge his support for all Michigan Democrats after hearing that.
  • New Hampshire: In Portsmouth, LCV Victory Fund spoke with 60-year-old Amanda about the upcoming midterm election. She is a registered Republican but told us that she’d be voting only for Democrats this year, including for Sen. Hassan. She decided to switch parties after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. She no longer feels comfortable voting for Republicans, given their restrictive position on women’s health.
  • Nevada: In Reno, LCV Victory Fund and Nevada Conservation Leadership PAC spoke with Tyrone, a 65-year-old voter, about the upcoming midterm election. Tyrone likes that Gov. Sisolak and Natha Anderson are working to reduce utility bills and create more housing. He also liked Sen. Cortez Masto’s efforts to reduce inflation. Tyrone committed to vote for all three candidates in November.
  • Pennsylvania: In Bucks County, LCV Victory Fund and Conservation Voters of PA IE PACspoke with Martin about the upcoming midterm election. Martin’s main issue of concern is the rising cost of living. Martin said that “Josh Shapiro will do his best to keep the cost of utility bills down.” Martin committed to vote for Josh Shapiro, John Fetterman, and Kris Walski in November. He told us to keep up the good work.
