Group will spend over $550,000 in competitive MD-04, OR-06, PA-12, and TX-28 primaries

Washington, D.C. – Today, LCV Victory Fund announced that its first $550,000 investment of 2022 will go to four independent expenditures supporting pro-environment, non-incumbent, women of color running for U.S. House seats in competitive primaries: Jessica Cisneros, candidate for TX-28; Donna Edwards, candidate for MD-04; Summer Lee, candidate for PA-12; and Andrea Salinas, candidate for OR-06. LCV Victory Fund has only invested in federal primary elections a handful of times before.

The super PAC released new ads in two of the districts alongside today’s announcement:

OR-06: “Delivers”

TX-28: “Respalda”

The video ad supporting Andrea Salinas will run on digital platforms throughout the OR-06 Congressional district through the May 17 primary. CHC BOLD PAC is also running a version of the ad on TV through the primary. The Spanish-language radio ad supporting Jessica Cisneros in TX-28 will run on Spanish-language radio stations in San Antonio and additional streaming platforms in the district through the primary runoff election on May 24. A video ad supporting Summer Lee in PA-12 will launch later this week and run on digital platforms through the May 17 primary.

“We’re getting involved in these primaries because electing more pro-environment women of color is good for people and the planet – we desperately need Congress to be more representative of the electorate,” said Megan Jacobs, LCV Victory Fund Senior National Campaigns Director. “With increasing climate-fueled extreme weather events and rising energy prices, it is more important than ever to send strong climate leaders to Congress who support investing in clean energy, advancing environmental justice, and lowering costs for families.”

The race to represent Oregon’s 6th district has been especially contentious – candidate Carrick Flynn has said he is ‘sympathetic to’ Timber Unity, an anti-environment group with far right anti-governmental ties. Oregon League of Conservation Voters and other leading environmental organizations in the state released a joint statement saying “it’s inexcusable to sympathize with a group tied to violent extremism” and that he “clearly does not understand that Oregon is the place we all love because we protect thriving farmlands, vibrant forests, and awe-inspiring open spaces.”

Cisneros, Edwards, Lee and Salinas were all endorsed by LCV Action Fund earlier this year.

Full text of the two new ads are below.

OR-06: “Delivers”
Andrea Salinas learned hard work from her dad
An immigrant who became a citizen after serving in Vietnam
And she’s never stopped fighting
When Donald Trump tried to restrict abortion rights
Andrea pushed the strongest reproductive laws in the country
She fought for paid family leave
Higher minimum wage
Affordable prescription drugs
And against climate change
She delivers
Andrea Salinas for Congress
A progressive fighter for us

TX-28: “Respalda”
mayo. ¡Haga un plan para votar por Jessica
Cisneros!
