RE: 6 Things We Wish We Could Forget About Trump’s Record (but won’t):

We get it, Trump is so extreme and outrageous that it can be tempting to tune him out and hope he goes away. But with Super Tuesday next week, the Republican nomination is clearly all but officially over, and we know he’s not going anywhere. Despite his extremist record, many people have seemingly forgotten just how disastrous and harmful Trump was as president.  With that in mind, here are Six Things We Wish We Could Forget About Trump’s Record (but won’t):

  1. Trump rolled back 100 environmental protections. Over four years as president, Donald Trump eliminated, weakened, or rolled back approximately 100 environmental protections. The New York Times analyzed the Trump record and found “nearly 100 environmental rules officially reversed, revoked or otherwise rolled back under Mr. Trump,” with many more rollbacks close-to-final when he lost in 2020.
  2. Trump obscured and manipulated climate science, ignored scientists, and drove them out of his administration. Trump actually scrubbed mention of climate change from government websites and manipulated scientific reports to exclude the worst impacts of climate change, while driving hundreds of scientists and experts out of the administration.
  3. Trump used the COVID-19 crisis to justify letting polluters violate the law. In the very first weeks of the COVID-19 crisis, Trump suspended enforcement of many environmental protections and said his administration would not penalize companies that violated clean air and water laws.
  4. Trump disproportionately hurt communities of color with his environmental rollbacks. According to a report by the Center for American Progress, many of Trump’s efforts to weaken environmental protections notably impacted communities that were already experiencing more pollution and greater risks to health and safety due to systemic racism.
  5. Trump opposed cleaning up toxic PFAS chemicals. Trump threatened to veto bills aimed at protecting people from dangerous PFAS chemicals in our water, and Trump created loopholes that allowed companies to avoid having to disclose whether they were releasing PFAS.
  6. Trump refused to accept the outcome of the 2020 presidential election. Ok, this one is harder to forget given that Trump was responsible for the first time our country’s tradition of peaceful transition of power perished. Furthermore, he continues to push the Big Lie that the 2020 election was somehow stolen from him.

Of course, Trump has had no change of heart since soundly losing the 2020 election. If anything, his positions have become more extreme and unhinged as evidenced by this video.

In stark contrast. The Biden administration has done more than any administration in history to confront the climate crisis – and is doing so in ways that create jobs and lower costs. The Biden-Harris administration is using science to strengthen, not weaken, clean air and water protections. They are holding corporations accountable for their pollution – not creating loopholes for them – in fact they have closed the loopholes Trump created. They are working to strengthen and uphold our democracy instead of promising to abuse their authority as a dictator on day one
