In Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, LCV Action Fund-endorsed Missy Cotter Smasal is running against Republican incumbent Jen Kiggans. Missy Cotter Smasal is an advocate for the Chesapeake Bay, serving as the Virginia Citizen Representative on the Chesapeake Bay Commission, a bipartisan commission focused on restoring the bay and its watershed. Jen Kiggans has a 17% LCV score and sided with extreme MAGA Republicans on the“Default on America” plan which would have repealed clean energy tax credits and threatened to force a national recession if Republicans didn’t get their way on gutting environmental protections. And in just her first term, Kiggans requested millions of taxpayer dollars in an earmark for a natural gas pipeline that could have benefited companies whose corporate PACs had just weeks earlier contributed thousands to her campaign.
